So, the new show season is just around the corner. Kids and parents will begin the journey to find that perfect calf for their family. It is an exciting time of the year for all involved. I thought I would give you a sneak peek into what that looks like from the side of the breeder. So, over the next few weeks I will document some of that process. It is a time of mixed emotion. All of your work from the last year is riding on this one day (if you are selling at an auction). Countless hours of work, sweat, and tears are poured into this process. But it is also a day of great joy as you see the smiles on those kids faces as they find the calf they want and are so happy to take them home.
This all starts over a year before this day. We start with the breeding of the cows. Countless hours are spent pouring over semen catalogs, looking through pictures of calves, and trying to find that perfect match between cow and bull. You just pray that you have picked the right match and that everything goes well so that you can have those great calves for the kids to pick from.
If you are lucky like me you have Supergirl to help you with all of those cattle checks during the summer when you are waiting on those calves to be born. This is a family business and we are extremely blessed to be able to do this together.
