Learning The Show Ropes

April 25, 2016

As you get a project animal it is important that you build a level of trust and comfort with each calf. You will need to put in a lot of work to get them ready for shows. After we have halter broke all of our calves we start out teaching them to be comfortable with us by putting them in the grooming chute.  They then learn not to fear the process of getting a bath, blowing, and clipping them.  Always remember that all of this is new to them and you must let them have time to trust you and be comfortable with each process.  If you have a calf that is a kicker it is always good to keep working with them by spraying water on their legs and then working into being able to brush them on the legs without them being scared and kicking you.  Be patient and remember that this process takes time.
